Right as some of you didnt think todays was Hard enough or long enough here is next Sundays! Twisted Evil
http://ridewithgps.com/routes/2352631

If you look at the route at mile marker 19 that is the start or near to the climb at North Nibley. BUT if you look I think those that don't fancy the hill can slip off there and rejoin the route on the main road.

Bacon Baguettes at the pub at Wotton as usual.
Easy ride back from there.

Not next Sunday but the one after ie the 28th is the Jelly and trifle birthday so dont forget to let me know if you are coming .

I'm hoping to make this ride - but got a Monday work deadline I'm not sure I'm going to make right now

If I do come out, if anyone is wearing a small or medium club jersey, would you mind if I tried it on?

Lampern is pretty nasty but it's a small part of the overall ride and you won't get fitter staying in your comfort zone! (and yes I'll likely being swearing going up it if I make the ride)
Have fun on the Exmoor ride Chris & Emma!

At the end of the day, i ride not only for fitness, but because i enjoy it.

I don't mind stepping outside my comfort zone (Mumbleys and zigzags spring to mind), and i can do flatland all day, but Lampern is a hill too far!...
Wotton Hill is not as bad as Lampern, but i had no choice but to bail because i was in too much pain and exhausted, and i couldn't carry on if i tried.

If i do Sunday, then i'm likely to have to bail again..... Where's the fun in that?

To be fair it is a stiff test, once you're on it there's no relent till the top. The middle section is a pretty constant 12 percent and goes on a bit. Then there are two bends nearer 14 percent. steeperthanithought!

According to the profile on RideWithGPS there's a section in the middle that's 15% ! To anyone who's not done Lampern before and who might be a bit put off by it, you do feel a great sense of achievement when you eventually get to the top.

@Andy ... understand better than you might think :)

I stopped riding some nbcc rides just because lampern was in it ..... it's just no fun, challenge or not Gary,
to be beaten by the same hill every time.

I could always detour off the sunday ride and come meet in Dursley for a potter. you and me ?

How hard is Lampern in comparison to the rides we have done this year already. Or in total for NBCC rides?
Do you need dinner plate gears to get up it, or is a 25 OK?

I would of liked to make this but I can't. Would be good on my 34-30.

Personally I don't think Lampern is not that hard yes it goes on a bit but we have done worse.
There is a shortcut if you look at the route once you get to North Nibley then turn right instead of left and follow that road it takes you straight into Wotton. And first dips of the bacon rolls!

I've done it on a 34-28 so a 34-30 should be easier or have I missed something?

That you still have to get up there? :p low gearing isn't the same as having an engine...

I don't particularly enjoy Lampern myself, for me it's awkward as it's too steep to comfortably sit down and spin (at least at my pace on a 34-27) and it's too long to stand up the whole way without wishing you were doing something else less painful instead (like sticking pins in your eyes) but really it's not that long and you recover soon enough at the top so it's just a blip on the ride and it's nice to have the odd horrible hill on routes to test yourself on.
