PostSubject: Where to go....?   Tue Jun 17, 2014 7:33 pm

Hi all,
I'm looking to go out for some weekday evening rides, but I know this is boarding on the lame excuse, I'm not sure on any routes that would be safe to go out. Either bike routes or on the roads.

I've looked at Ride with GPS, and there are some activities on there, but never sure of whether they're nice routes to do.
I was wondering if anyone had a library of the routes you undertake and I can search from there. I'm almost hoping for a route list (much like a walking guide book!) Is this perhaps too much to ask for???

Many thanks

Claire

Claire
Firstly what kind of distance are you looking for?
I would advise two maps one the Cotswold tour This one If you are heading this way (ie North of Bristol )
and the os map 172 which is Bristol and Bath.
The Cotswold one is very good as it is easy to read and it has the cycle routes marked on it.
What would be easist woukd be to head for the nearest point on cycle route 10 .This is the one thatgoes all the way around Bristol. It is very well marked just ride it till you have gone far enough and either come back the same way or get your map out see where you are nd head back home.If you rely on a Garmin then you will not learn the roads as all you ill end up doing is following the Sat nav.
If you look on RWGPS and ask for all rides from Bigsenior then all the club rides are on there.
Hope this helps if you want to go Sauff then ask Mr John Mills as he is better that side of town.

I think you may well be asking a little much.

Have a look through the weekday evening threads, some people will have posted up routes but some of us have a few short routes in our heads which we ride regularly (unless I speak completely for myself!) The only way I've found these is by getting on my bike and riding it, occasionally getting a bit lost and then finding my way home.

Where abouts do you live?

Have to agree there Tom.Some of my best rides are going out and getting lost and then getting map out and finding your way home.
Andy W will be back soon he has some nice little 20-30 milers for an evening ride. But as Tom said most just have a route in there heads and go for it.

Claire,
Just pm'd you re; the Welsh route.
If we met up at bridge or on the way to it, there are plenty of options of routes and most of them are club ride teritory.
I still use paper maps, so you can actualy see where you are!

Thank you very much everyone, I'll certainly check out route 10 and hopefully give this a spin tomorrow night.

I live in Horfield and work out of Patchway so the Bradley Stoke start point is ideal for me.

I'm looking for rides around 20-30 miles (for now - got to get bike fit!) and see how I get on. Its just frustrating having so many nice evenings and not being able to enjoy them properly.

Thanks again. If anyone would like to join me then all the better.

Have a good week everyone, its hump day tomorrow! Woop woop!

If you go to any Library you should be able to pick up a map of route 10. or download or order for the price of a stamp.
