Well what can I say. Last Sunday I cycled my furthest at 51 miles and this week I made it 63. Thanks again to John and Scott for your support and to Robin for the drugs! I can tell I must be getting fitter as I had Norris drafting me up Burrington Coombe! http://connect.garmin.com/activity/99859308

Notice the relaxed position adopted as per the rules. Very Happy
http://www.velominati.com/blog/the-rules/

Rule #80
/ Always be Casually Deliberate.

Waiting for others pre-ride or at the start line pre-race, you must be tranquilo, resting on your top tube thusly. This may be extended to any time one is aboard the bike, but not riding it, such as at stop lights.

I think I enjoyed the ride home more than the ride there...

Agreed with Scott re: bandit-ing it in future - it's roads that we ride on a fairly regular basis, and the organisers didn't do a lot for the money. Having to cycle down the road from the finish point to collect the food was cheeky as hell I thought.

Good ride though all in all, just a bit put out to have paid for it.

Personally I like to have something to take away at the end of paid for events like that, e.g. always got a medal on half marathons ... agree with the general negative comments about what effort the organisers put in here ... they needed to be prepared for any weather, as they even put on their own Facebook page - "This is the middle of summer in the UK, do you really expect sun?!"

He's the cycling equivalent of Death, ready to pounce on anyone suffering at the back, although apparently he offers words of encouragement rather than eternal damnation...

I'm just checking to see if there's any parts worth culling :-D

Although not always true .... as you'll note an alternate
stalker in the background here :-)

ROFL Mark Smile Shame they didn't take pics at the end when we'd taken coats off, my coat clearly looks far too baggy now! Might still purchase a download or 2 though. Out at my sons last cubs evening this term at Woodhouse now, fixing all the punctured tyres I picked up Sunday! When I put the bike in the van at the end I heard more hissing and had obviously just got another Sad think I've got the knack of repairing now though after the advice to leave the glue 5 mins, thanks Scott

I think we can safely say that Scott does seem to know a thing or two about cycling. I managed to ride 450 miles without a puncture ans I've picked up two in the last 150 which is a bit of a bugger.

As someone has stated most of the points I think I will chuck in my thoughts as well.Trouble is a lot of those who did the ride do not know any better.

Tried to post this on feed back but it wouldn't let me!
I tried to post this on the feedback but it wouldnt let me so I e mailed him.

I am afraid that I must agree with the post from Phil D.
I was lead to believe in great things for this event and being a member of two local cycle clubs managed to cajole and bully about 15 /20 riders to put their money down.As is stated elsewhere large entry fee but the promise of food and a bar kept them all interested. When I received an e mail stating that the caterers had let you down but there will still be the bar and we will get fish and chips we just managed to hold our nerve and turn up for the ride.
I have done a lot of Audax rides and a few sportives. Now I know this wasn't an Audax and I know it wasn't a sportive if it was where was the timing?
I pay under £5 to enter an Audax but I only get a route card to follow no Marshells and no arrows but I do get a cup of tea at least at the start and at the halfway normally with a cake or two thrown in and at the end there is always tea cake etc. With a sportive I normally get bars gels timing chips and arrows but then that is what I am paying for.
To arrive at the end to be welcomed with a chew bar and a bottle of water and a raffle ticket for a small portion of fish and chips ,'because of the weather' is a bit of a let down You posted on facebook about it being an English summer don't expect sun and you went on to say that the weather was looking dodgy,Surly even more reason for a hot cuppa under cover at the end.
I believe you sold this event on ..we don't give you the normal t shirt we will supply food and a bar etc. This is almost breach of contract.Don't blame the weather any Marquee company worth their salt would of banged up a tent for you .or as every indication was that it was going to be wet why not a village hall for the finish.
I will stop now I could go on.Suffice to say I for one and about 20 of our club riders will not be entering next year.
With the vast amount of money you saved on the finish I do hope the donation to the charity will be increased so that something good comes out of this event. To think also it was the Evans sportive same weekend.I know we should of done that

+1
That's all fair comments Scott, I def felt disappointed afterwards - what with it being the first cycling event I've paid to take part in, and it felt a lot of dosh .. as you say the Evans one may have been better, at least cheaper, and organised by a larger company ..
