Right getting this in early to give the weather a chance to sort it's self out.
As I have been away for a while AND as we have some new riders I am looking at a 30/35 miles for this date.It will be a 10.00 am start most likely going over towards Badminton way.I am working on the route but what I really want is some idea of any new riders that want to come along so I can adjust route accordingly.

Forecast is sunshine and showers oh and a little breezy. Me and the lad will be there, the question is do I put the intermediates or slicks on ? Presumably a 10am start from the Subway at Tesco Extra Bradley Stoke ?

Seems there are a few new ones tomorrow so just to reiterate Start at 10.00hrs from outside Subway/Tesco/Costa at Bradley Stoke.Route is posted earlier in posts There might be a couple of very small changes depending on Weather energy size of group etc but nothing major.
I have not had a chance to check out the cafe a Marshfield ,but if it is shut then I have a plan 'b' The tea rooms on the a46 between the cold ashton roundabout and the motorway junction. If we have to use this cake stop then the return will be slightly different ie through Dyrham Doynton into Pucklechurch etc.
Look forward to seeing you all tomorrow old and new faces alike.
Ps just back from a 40+ miler so be gentle with me,I am an old man

Hi all,
Just had my bike serviced and thought they may have oiled my chain, am thinking they didn't. Am still a bit of a novice when it comes to bike maintenance, does anyone know if I can bike oil at the tesco??
Halfords doesn't open till 10 tomorrow.
Should be fine but know my gears were a bit crunchy last time and typically left it to last minute to sort!
See you tomorrow, hope it stops ruddy raining!

Cheers

@Gary - it's impossible to aqua-plane on road bike tyres, they're too narrow and the speeds are too low. So the best choice for road bike tyres is slicks whatever the weather (except ice in which case you might want studs lol), it gives you the most rubber in contact with the ground so the most grip. Tread on road bike tyres is just a marketing gimmick so they can sell wet weather/winter tyres :p That said having tread on your tyres doesn't mean you're a mug - some popular tyres like Conti gatorskins have it and they're still great tyres, it's just the tread isn't doing anything.

And some tyres are just dreadful in the wet with or without tread! Aka Vittoria Rubino Pro III's! (great tyres in the dry)

Thanks Nick for the advice re tyre choice but I have to come clean, I don't have a shelf full of tyres for every meteoroligical situtaion in the garage, all that keeps my bike and me stuck to the tarmac, whatever the British weather throws up, are the Bontrager T1's that came with my Trek 1.2. I've not ridden on any other tyres yet so I've nothing to compare them to but I've got no complaints so far.
I hope the cafe in Marshfield is open as if it's not and we have to go via the Dyrham cafe, we're going to miss out the descent of Tog Hill.
