Thanks for the route suggestion Scott. I've done a bit of whittling and I can now present to you the "Tetbury Flyby".

Tetbury Flyby

It's' a bit of a long 'un at 56 miles (and that's after my whittling) but there's "only" 2,900 ft of climbing. A big chunk of this climbing starts as we approach Alderley (mile 22.3) and over the course of the next 1.2 miles we ascend some 350 ft (that's 15 feet less than the height of the dome of St Pauls cathedral) which apparently means the gradient averages at 6%, however, it does max out briefly at a shade under 15%  Shocked

What goes up must come down and at around mile 39.5 we are rewarded with 2.5 miles of descent into Wotton at an average gradient of -6%. We will not however be going down what we call Wotton Hill, to spice things up a bit we'll be going first down the Old London Road (-2.9% average, -8.4% max) and then turning left into Adey's Lane  -11% average, -16.5% max).  Shocked   Shocked

After that I think we will have earned our bacon rolls / scrambled eggs on toast (delete not applicable). The slow group will be long gone I should imagine as they will have done 16 miles less distance and 845 ft less climbing to go.

If you want to be sadistic then at mile 40 go up Spring Hill affraid The one that goes up past Forest green Rovers .It's a pig of a hill.

Sorry Scott but I believe the Spring Hill to which you refer is in Nailsworth and as a result of my "whittling" Nailsworth is not on the route (phew!).

Gary, maybe your Garmin requires re-calibrating ?

This route is the Gospel pass Audax which four of us rode together and all Garmins were within a few metres of each other at the finish.

https://connect.garmin.com/modern/activity/719504630

Chepstow and back via your route is only 1209 feet not 2757 feet.

However good effort Gazzer!
