Thanks guys - it was a great day and I'm very pleased to to have ridden with you.

I do most of my riding solo but it makes a nice change to have company and explore some new routes. Whilst it's a pity about Peter's 3 punctures I think that without them, he'd probably have been home long ago with his feet up.

I hope to see you guys on Sunday, but I'm not looking forward to that spiteful little incline near Westwing school - let's just hope we don't meet some tee double-u aye tee coming the other way in a whacking great 4x4. If we do it'll be synchronised gentlemen's tactical dismount, I fear.

Thanks for posting today's route Scott; now I can see where we actually went.

Cheers and beers

Thanks for a most enjoyable ride today. Thanks Scott for the tube. Had 2 more stops for some air. Checked the tubes and all holes in same place. Carefully looked at that area on tyre and found a minute stone splinter. Might put off buying that new tyre.

Hmmm

Last night, in preparation for today's ride, I went over both my tyres with a pointy tool (like an awl) and removed 3 small pieces of sharp stone that had penetrated right into the rubber. A cursory glance would have missed them which is, I fear, what happened to Peter. They (stone shards) seem to be more of a problem when the roads are wet because, perhaps, they stick to the tyre as it rotates and get driven in.

That's my theory anyway.

I've found (recently) that running slightly lower pressures seem to help NOT get
these shards into the tyre. the lower pressure seems to work by allowing the tyre
to deform around the shard instead of puncturing it !!

I'm now using 90-95 instead 100-110 ....
