Registration opens on Monday for Bristol's biggest bike ride on the 17th of June 2012.

Bristol's Biggest Bike Ride

It's only 36 miles (for the Clevedon challenge) , so shouldn't cause too much difficulty for anyone, registration is free.

I think there was quite a favourable response in the Club when the subject of Bristols Biggest Bike Ride came up a couple of months back. Scott junior and I will be putting our names down for the long route (the 38 mile Clevedon Challenge).

I remember last years event was a washout, and was cancelled on the day due to too much rain and a truck that crashed on the portway, I recall picking up a puncture on the cyclepath, and after that crashing into a tree. I hope this years event is not a repeat!

Yes. Me and two friends rode down to the start just in time to hear the announcement that it was not going ahead. I was on a Carrera mountain bike, which weighed just slightly more than Mars, with a piece of plastic guttering cunningly fashioned(@ 6am that very same morning) into a rear mudguard,of sorts.
Needless to say, we were all totally drenched by this time and so rode to Bath in the rain! I used to dream of a racing bike back then!

Scott and I did this ride last year despite the official call off. The rain wasn't so bad but the force 25 gale blowing across the M5 bridge at Avonmouth was rather challenging.

Bobbydazler got interviewed by the TV guys then promptly fell off afterwards. Scott and I were on the telly filmed drinking coffee and eating cake!

In the famous words or Gary 'I'm out'
I don't intend taking two grands worth of road bike along a dirt track! Unless they have changed the route!

Will that be a lever arch or ring bound?

Either that or ride fixed. Makes it more interesting when riding with the young one.

Just a reminder that a week this Sunday is Bristols Biggest Bike Ride, details here. The 38 mile Clevedon Challenge route (all on tarmac'd roads/lanes) has been altered slightly to take account of some road closures but it's all signposted on the day.

I am registered to do this ride along with a few mates from the office so I will see any NBCC riders at the start.

@scott, what do you mean, you won't take your bike on dirt tracks, isn't that what we did on Tuesday?

Ah ,yes but that was MY route.
I see that they have re introduced the Clevedon challenge. maybe they heard me moaning about the Pill mud sorry cycle track.I got caught out on this track a few years ago took about 40 minutes for us to all filter through a 'kissing' gate to discover we were on a mud track and I got stuck behind someone doing 5 mph and nowhere to overtake. The next year we rode to Portishead and then came back over the Avonmouth bridge and back down the Portway. If you are early enough it is still closed.
Just thought we could do the Clevedon ride twice to make it a decent length.

I can't make it tommorow cos I'm at home which is a shame cos I was hoping to be out seeing as I have had to lock myself in the library for the past two weeks for revision (contrary to popular belief students do have to work, especially as big senior isn't sure about me becoming a doc and all that malarkey - better do some studying!!) have a good time Smile
